Portrait Of Akhbota

15 year old Eagle Huntress ‘Akhbota’ is one of just a few female hunters in Mongolia. Like her father and grandfather before her she has embraced the tradition so far in a challenging environment. This is not the only thing that challenges her or her family though – with so much pressure on her shoulders to maintain the unique position as a future female heir to the Eagle Hunting throne, her adolescence throws up some serious decisions she has to make moving into adulthood: should she carry the tradition on or move away to explore a career in other passions? Either way, I held a lot of respect for Akhbota – she was a delight to get to know and a pleasure to study when it came to portraits.
